History of Alaminos City

Alaminos City is a component city of Pangasinan, itself part of Ilocos Region that also consists of the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union.

Alaminos was part of the municipality of Bolinao of then province of Zambales. When its population grew, it was made into an independent town by 1747. It land witnessed several conflicts and catastrophe that either it was abandoned only for inhabitants to return lateror new settlements sprang. The latter occurred when people chose to live inland in what was then called Sarapsap (presently Barangay Poblacion) that would later be renamed Alaminos after Governor General Juan Alaminos y Vivar in 1872.

On November 21, 1903, it seceded from Zambales along with the towns of Bolinao, San Isidro, and Infanta; they were absorbed as new territories of Pangasinan through Act No. 1004.

Alaminos became a city through Repulic Act No. 9025, otherwise known as “An Act Converting the Municipality of Alaminos, Province of Pangasinan into a Component City to be known as the City of Alaminos.” The law approved by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on March 5, 2001 and ratified on March 28, 2001. This is the date being remembered in the yearly cityhood anniversary.
