Panumod Festival comes from the word tumod, which is Cebuano word for delivery. In the context of the festivity, it is the act of moving livestock to be sold in the market. The trading that takes place between buyers and sellers in the market is called tabo.
History of Panumod Festival
For years, the town of Barili staged Kaumahan Festival which debuted in 2008 during the mayoral term of Teresito Marinas. Its name comes from the root word uma or farming, while the word kaumahan means field or farmland. It is a festive expression of gratitude for bountiful harvest and promotion of local products.
Panumod Festival replaced Kaumahan Festival on July 26, 2024, coinciding the 410th religious festival. It is a celebration of livestock trading that has become a source of livelihood and invigorated the local economy. Its livestock market every Tuesday in Mantalongon is considered the largest in the entire Visayas, and it is also a flourishing marketplace for fruits and vegetables.

Its early place of worship must had been made of humble building materials that was susceptible to fire. A stone church was built by the river, however it was flooded whenever the river rose and did not survive from the onslaught of natural calamities.
Towards the end of the 19th century, Carlos Alquizola donated the lot that the present-day church stands. The church was constructed in 1889 during the time of Fr. Juan Alcoseba (who served until 1910).
It was declared an archdiocesan shrine on July 24, 2005.
